OUR MISSION
Kiwanis International is a global community of clubs with members in 80 countries and geographic areas dedicated to improving the lives of children one community at a time.

Each community has different needs and local club members are empowered to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of the children in OUR community Kiwanis helps kids around the world. Local clubs look out for our communities and the international organization takes on large-scale challenges, such as fighting disease and poverty.
Best known for our Pancake Day and Peanut Day fundraisers, local Kiwanians can be found serving the kids of the community by sponsoring Builders Club and Key Club for students, for funding Read Across Mattoon, various youth programs, and college scholarships, and for building parks and playgrounds.
What we do
Kiwanis Joe Gary Scholarship
Each year we present the Kiwanis Joe Gary Scholarship for $1,000 to a Lake Land College student. The scholarship is is named in memory of long Kiwanis member Joe Gary. Gary was very active in the Kiwanis Club and taught French and was audio-visual director and director of printing services for Lake Land College. The Kiwanis Club of Mattoon sponsors the Mattoon High School Key Club. Key Club is an international, student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership.

Builders Club
The Kiwanis Club of Mattoon sponsors the Builders Club at Mattoon Middle School. Builders Club is the largest service organization for middle school students with ore than 45,000 members worldwide. Members learn to work together to develop leadership skills as they serve their school and community.
